Call for Submissions Echidna Tracks Issue 12: Open Theme

For Echidna Tracks, Issue 12, Open Theme, we invite your best and previously unpublished haiku and senryu on any topic that stirs your imagination.

The submission period for Echidna Tracks Issue 12: Open Theme will be open during the month of September 2023. Submissions will only be received via the submissions form and during the time the link is open.

Submissions for Echidna Tracks Issue 12: Open Theme have now closed. We plan to start publication on 1 January 2024. The editors will contact those with successful submissions within three weeks.

Anybody can submit work that is relevant to Australia – but as this is a website for the collection of Australian haiku, the work we are looking for will come from an authentic experience of either living in or visiting Australia. Unfortunately, we cannot consider your submission when we cannot verify an Australian connection. See About Echidna Tracks

Guidelines

You are invited to submit up to five (5) haiku in one submission on the topic advertised. Haiku must be your own original work, unpublished (in print or online, in forums or blogs, Facebook pages and groups etc) and not under consideration elsewhere. Please do not submit close versions of work previously published or accepted for publication.

Make only one submission containing all the haiku you are submitting.

Include your name and country of residence. If you are not currently living in Australia, let us know your connection. Unfortunately, when we cannot verify an Australian connection, we cannot consider your submission.

Poets will be notified of acceptances (only) within three weeks of the closing date for submissions.  If you have not heard from us by then, you may consider your work free to send elsewhere.

Selected haiku will be posted on the website individually over the following months—so keep checking in to enjoy the work of others and to see when your selection appears. If you ‘follow’ the website by email, you will receive a notification when each new haiku is posted.

We sometimes publish haiku with an accompanying image at the discretion of the editors. Images are a response to the haiku; they are not intended to be haiga. If you do not wish your haiku to be accompanied by an image, please indicate this when you make your submission.

Format of haiku: if your haiku contains italics or some unusual formatting, please provide that information in your submission. The form for submission removes both italics and formatting.
